The Prelude team is made up of former red-team security practitioners, security engineers, developers, and designers.

David Hunt

David Hunt is the CTO of Prelude. David specializes in building teams which bridge cybersecurity with best-practice technology. Before coming to Prelude, David spent two years at MITRE Corporation in a dual-role as head developer and project lead for the CALDERA adversary emulation framework. David designed CALDERA v2 from the ground up and instrumented a plan which made it the industry leader in open-source breach and simulation. Prior to this work, David spent 15 years in offensive security and management roles, ranging organizations like Rockwell Collins, John Deere, Kenna Security and FireEye. While at FireEye, David personally oversaw the storage and access of Mandiant's threat intelligence data, as the leader of the (then secretive) Nucleus team. Over the years, David has also worked as a contractor for several U.S. intelligence agencies, working domestically and internationally, as a principal security specialist.

Alex Manners

Alex Manners is a Principal Cyber Security Engineer at Prelude. Alex blends military cyber operations with a deep infrastructure and software engineering background. Prior to joining Prelude, Alex spent almost two years at The MITRE Corporation as a lead Adversary Emulation engineer and software development manager for the CALDERA adversary emulation framework. He led R&D for the CALDERA framework, designing multiple plugins and the current planning engine, as well as pushing the latest in offensive security tooling into the project. Earlier in Alex's career, he served as a Cyber Warfare Operations officer in the United State Air Force (USAF) where he led large operational support teams and integrated all aspects of offensive and defensive cyber operations into USAF Air Operations Center (AOC) operations. His cybersecurity experience spans the intelligence community, the U.S. military, non-military government, federal contracting, and the private sector.

Spencer Thompson

Spencer is the Founder & CEO of Prelude. Prior to Prelude, Spencer founded Sokanu, the Internet’s largest career advancement platform. Sokanu serves over 10m people a year, has had ~1B questions answered through the platform and developed the most advanced career matching platform algorithm. Spencer led Sokanu to a successful acquisition by Two Sigma Impact & Baypine in early 2021. Spencer also serves as an advisor to several companies and investment funds in the impact and workforce development space. Spencer partially completed a BSc in Economics from the University of London before stopping out to found Sokanu.

Penny Tiglias

Penny Tiglias leads operations at Prelude. Penny is an executive with 18+ years of experience primarily in the financial services and real estate industries. She strikes the balance between strategic vision and tactical execution in order to transform and propel an organization forward. She has a proven track record of success at companies including American Express and Related Companies as well as through independent consulting for start-ups and hospitality brands. Penny’s strengths lie in identifying, creating and expanding consumer and B2B growth opportunities to drive increased profitability through customer acquisition, engagement, innovation, investment optimization, and operational excellence and applying a collaborative leadership style that aligns an organization toward a common mission.

Kristopher Willis

Kristopher Willis is a Principal Cyber Security Researcher at Prelude. Kris has both his Masters in Computer Security Fundamentals, CSE and Bachelors in Information Studies from the University of South Florida. During his time at the University of South Florida, Kris played numerous capture the flag (CTF) competitions and was a 2-term President of Whitehatters Computer Security Club (WCSC). Kris has since gone on to professionally compete, organize, and create challenges for CTFs. Professionally, Kris has experience within Academia, DoD contracting (both small and large), and within the DOE National Lab space. Kris was a technical lead on AFRL BlackBadge program which facilitated DARPA Cyber Grand Challenge (CGC). Kris was also a technical lead on ACT and ACT2 programs delivering operationally ready offensive cyber tools. Kris’s primarily technical background is in software vulnerability research, automated program analysis, program synthesis, and offensive cyber tool development.

Lewis Zimmerman

Lewis Zimmerman leads product & technology at Prelude. Lewis is an accomplished programmer and technologist. His work has ranged from being the Head of Machine Learning & a senior developer @ Sokanu, to a programmer at BroadbandTV, to a games engineer at Relic Entertainment. Lewis received his Bachelors of Commerce in Finance & Computer Science from the University of British Columbia. Lewis has also run his own consulting business and is an accomplished designer.
